Get ready, cause it is ON. Come Wednesday, March 31, right smack in the middle of the week, Godzilla vs. Kong, the fourth film in Legendary’s run of “MonsterVerse” films, will premiere. And if you aren’t ready to sit in one of the newly re-opened movie theaters just yet, the best way to enjoy it is to stream it on HBO Max—where it will be simultaneously released.
Godzilla vs. Kong picks up from Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Kong: Skull Island (2017), though Decider’s Anna Menta doesn’t think you’ll have to remember much to enjoy this 2021 iteration of monster madness on HBO Max.
“Let’s be honest: You’re not watching Godzilla vs. Kong for the quippy dialogue or narratively satisfying character arcs,“ Menta says. “You’re watching Godzilla vs. Kong for the sweet-ass monster fights. That has always been the modus operandi of the Godzilla franchise, and, for better or worse, director Adam Wingard delivers on those expectations.”
If you have HBO Max already, congratulations. You’re all set. But if you haven’t yet subscribed, you can sign up now for $14.99 per month. Not only will you be right in time to watch this anticipated film, but you’ll also be able to stream all the Warner Bros.’ 2021 releases for 31 days after their release. That includes Mortal Kombat on April 16 and the new anticipated musical from the creator of Hamilton, In the Heights, on June 11.
Though HBO Max does not offer a free trial, AT&T is offering the streaming platform free with some of their wireless, Internet and TV plans.
