Justin Jefferson would like to set the record straight about his feisty, hot mic comments he made during Sunday’s Vikings-Bears game.
The rookie receiver was caught by a field microphone yelling at quarterback Kirk Cousins out of frustration towards the end of the second quarter while the Vikings were trailing 20-7 to the Bears.
“F–k, Kirk!” Jefferson shouted after Cousins scrambled and missed him on an off-target end zone throw. “Come on! Throw the ball!”
Afterwards, the 21-year-old LSU product took to social media to defend himself.
“y’all love blowing stuff out off proportion. And I ain’t no diva don’t get it twisted,” Jefferson wrote with four laugh-crying emojis.
Jefferson — who was selected No. 22 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft — caught eight of 11 targets for 104 yards and led the team in all three categories. He was drafted to star alongside Adam Thielen after disgruntled receiver Stefon Diggs was traded to the Bills this offseason. Jefferson has caught 73 of 103 targets for 1,182 yards and seven touchdowns through his first 14 games.
Cousins, 32, completed 24 of 35 attempts for 271 yards, two touchdowns, one interception and three rushes for 25 yards, which wasn’t enough to overcome a massive, two-touchdown game from David Montgomery. The 33-27 loss dropped the Vikings to 6-8 and effectively ended their playoff hopes. They sit in third place in the NFC North behind the Packers (11-3) and Bears (7-7).
The Vikings’ next challenge comes on Christmas day in New Orleans against the 10-4 Saints, who will try to stop a two-game skid and hold sole possession of first place in the NFC South.
